Packard Publishing

Welcome to our website. Packard Publishing Ltd was founded in 1977 by Clare and Michael Packard, and is now concentrating on semi-academic books in the niche markets of garden design (not general gardening), applied ecology and rural business, and to a lesser extent, English and French languages. We have started a new series of books as background studies for the educational and travel markets about the Regions of France: the first two titles on Languedoc-Roussillon and Auvergne have been published. The next two will cover Midi-Pyrenees and Aquitaine.

We are still putting on large, specialized book exhibitions at the conferences of garden-design societies, and at seminars organized by such companies as Palmstead Nurseries. Michael Packard visits design colleges and is always happy to discuss or recommend garden-design books for specific needs. Other publishers kindly encourage us to display their titles appropriate for our niche market, and we are still keen to supply books by mail order. A list of the titles at discounted prices from our latest exhibition will be posted on this site under Activities.

This is a small, specialized publishing house, and few booksellers will stock our titles. They may special-order our titles through the excellent wholesalers Gardners of Eastbourne or Bertram Trading of Norwich. So we are more than happy to supply both private or book-trade customers direct, taking credit/debit card details over the phone or on approved account. Our garden-design titles are stocked by the Royal Horticultural Society Bookshop at Wisley (and its satellite garden bookshops) and the RIBA and Foyle’s in London, as well as the mail-order companies, NHBS in Totnes, Devon, and Summerfield Books in Penrith, Cumbria. Language titles are stocked by Foyle’s again, the European Bookshop in London, and several Blackwell academic bookshops. At the moment we do not operate a system of payment through this website, because it is frankly uneconomic to do so. We are now represented in Europe by Durnell Marketing.
